The Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment (Firefighters) Bill 2018 has been introduced into Parliament by the NSW Government.

Firefighters who develop cancer will now be able to claim workers compensation entitlements and support more easily thanks to NSW Government reforms being introduced into Parliament today.

The NSW Parliament has today endorsed reforms which will simplify the dispute resolution process for injured workers who make a compensation claim.

The State Insurance Regulatory Authority Board has delivered a report on the Nominal Insurer’s liability valuations to the Minister for Finance Services and Property.

The Government will introduce amendments to workers compensation legislation to reverse the onus of proof for NSW firefighters who are diagnosed with one of 12 prescribed cancers and meet the applicable minimum employment periods.

From 1 October 2018, the maximum costs for legal services and maximum fees for medico-legal services will be indexed each year in line with inflation.

The Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Bill 2018 has been introduced into Parliament. The proposed amendments seek to simplify and streamline the state’s workers compensation dispute resolution system.

Insurers will apply indexed adjustments to workers compensation payments from 1 October 2018.
